Ssshhh…Our Secret Garden II begins Monday, June 30

Posted on Updated on

Hey kids! The Lafayette Community Garden will be hosting its second Our Secret Garden series.

Beginning June 30, Eli Chan will offer children a chance to get personal about ecology. On Monday and Thursday mornings from 9am to 10am, kids (and their caregivers) will head outside and connect with nature through stories, physical activity and garden-related crafts. They will be armed with the tools to make good food and lifestyle choices. Caregivers will learn how to nurture our next generation to be enthusiastic about their bodies, the environment and our community.

Together, we will become caring human beings who are part of an interconnected natural world. Join us in the garden and get ready to dig deeper than before!

Sign up now to become a first-class community leader.

Lafayette Community Garden and Outdoor Education Center opened last spring after three years in development.  Located on EBMUD land across from the Lafayette Reservoir, it has become a beautiful site where community members grow food collaboratively, participate in workshops about sustainable practices and harvest and share food.  The garden is being developed as a place where all community members can visit, witness and learn about a thriving garden and the native plants that part of the Lafayette Cree’s riparian ecosystem.

Quarry Lakes – Demonstration Garden

Posted on Updated on

In the Contra Costa Times, you can read about:

Alameda County Master Gardeners, through an agreement with the East Bay Regional Park District, are developing a demonstration garden in the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area in Fremont. We also work in cooperation with the Alameda County Water District.

Although the garden originally was conceived to introduce the community to the use of plants that tolerate our dry summers with little or no additional water, our approach necessarily broadened to creating an environmentally sustainable garden.

Can you say compacted soil?  Read the whole thing here.
